OK/OM DXContest 2009
OK/OM DX contest at OK2BMU. We usually start HF contesting saison in November. One of the contests is OK/OM DX Contest. One of a few possibilities to fully enjoy pile-up for Czech and Slovak hams because world is working against OK/OM stations. Good chance start trainee in CW operation. I decided take a part on 80m band. However my antenna setup is not optimal (just a simple dipole at 20m in the city) I choose this band as a most suitable. Equipment was Kenwood TS-480 and PA with russian tube GU74b with about 500W. Contest starts at noon UTC, so 80m in my home is usable since sunset about 17 o'clock local. I started at that time and then had break for dinner and short look on TV news at 19 o'clock. I continued after 20 o'clock. After midnight I was completelly dead, because I usually get up at 4 during weekdays. Went to bad and than started again after 4. Finally 8 o'clock is a deadline for 80m work. I worked in "run" mode for the whole contest. Plenty of Europeans called me. Mostly Russians (78x), Germans (65x) and Ukrainians (45x). These stations made the contest. Dx stations were pretty rare. Two Japanies in the evening (JA7DLE and JA9PPC). Maybe called more JA stations, but I did not heard. Some UA9 (about 10 during whole test), some TA, 4X, UN. First US stations started calling me about 22.20. I worked with almost 30 stations, the longest from Lousiana and Illinois. 6 stations from VE, 1 station KP4. Nothing big. My feeling is that particularly stations from the former East-european block took a part, less West-europeans and finally DX stations just like a antenna test before CQ WW Contest. Their shame. I really enjoyed contesting. The only shame is rather high level of local noise. I am living in a large industrial city and possibilities to build better antennas are very limited. CW training is neccessary: I didn't more than 3 QSO in one minute. It is not good. I must more trainee.... I am using excellent logging programe by N1MM. Really good job ! After I finished I had 471 QSOs and 147499 points. It would be enough for 4th place in last year in OK/OM in SO 80m HIGH category. I spent more than 9 hours of CW traffic and had 471 QSO.
