Did you know ...

... that it is 100 years since Harvard Radio Club estabilishment - the basis for the abbreviation HAM ?

I bring short explanation for those who don't know what abbreviation HAM means. It is an informal term for radioamateur. It is an abbreviation of the three names of American radio pioneers, who have founded
Harvard Radio Club in 1908. These gentlemen were:
Albert  Hyman
Bob     Almy
Peggie Murray
No callsign system had existed in those times. Sending whole names was unserviceable. They shortened their names to two first letters: Hy-Al-Mu. After they had found out that Mexican ship "Hyalmo" had the same name, they used shorter HAM callsign since 1910.
You can find more details here.

Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications made a public announcement that the domestic Table of Frequency Allocations and the Japanese Amateur Bandplan had been amended. Japanese amateurs are now allowed to operate following additional frequencies on 80/75 meters band; 3 599 to 3 612 kHz, 3 680 to 3 687 kHz, 3 702 to 3 716 kHz, 3 745 to 3 747 kHz and 3 754 to 3 770 kHz.

As the result, from April 28, 2008, JA amateurs will be on:

3 500 to 3 575 kHz
3 599 to 3 612 kHz
3 680 to 3 687 kHz
3 702 to 3 716 kHz
3 745 to 3 770 kHz
3 791 to 3 805 kHz

L.B.Cebik W4RNL- maybe the biggest antenna expert passed away last week. He published many articles in US ham journals. Everyone who ever did some experiments with antennas knows his website www.cebik.com. There is plenty of antenna information. W4RNL died in age of 68.
